Weaning?

Today Karla asked me why my "lechitas" were ddry.  I told her mommy's milk is for babies and that once babies stop needing milk the lechitas' stop producing it.  Needless to say, my boobs are shrinking.

I think she's weaned.  Karla knows there is very little milk.  Besides, Karla is 4 and has very little interest in nursing.  She only remembers every few days, sometimes every few weeks.

Letty has lost most of her interest in nursing.  Letty is only interested in nursing at bedtime, and for less than a minute.  Letty insists I prepare a milk bottle (bibi) at night.  She nurses first.  If and when Letty wants milk and is not satisfied with my production she drinks from the milk bottle.  Otherwise, she hugs the bottle like a safety charm.

 Once Letty is asleep, I put the night's bottle and sippy cup (milk and water) in the mini refrigerator upstairs.  If she wakes up in the middle of the night, she can have her bottles ready.

Wean me gentle.  I'm not ready for my last baby to grow up.  I've been nursing nonstop for the last 4 years.  It's hard to believe my baby prefers a milk bottle to my mommy milk (I must be sooo dry)

Counting up to 20 with Karla

Tonight we were counting in both Spanish and English. Karla knows how to count in English better than in Spanish. When we were going from 11 to 20, I noticed Karla changed the number 19 to 9. So I start counting, along with Karla, Letty is watching us.

11..12..13..14..15..16..17..18..*19*..20. Yay!

As soon as I reach 20, Karla says--Mommy, I congratulate you. You counted really well.

Karla then proceeded to walk away and do something else.

I just stood there dumbfounded.

Who's teaching who?

Our latest favorite song

Letty's favorite song is "Había un sapo que nadaba en el Rio".  Karla loves the song too.  Someone transferred the song to my cel phone, while I was studying at Starbucks.  Needless to say the girls love it. 

Today, I found out the song was also set as my new ringtone.  Too cute :)

Now Letty gets all excited whenever my cel phone rings.

Karla and Letty Playing Together

Gotta love the interaction between Karla and Letty.

1 yr old Letty will be playing peacefully, sitting down on the floor with
any book or toy. 3.5 yr old Karla will suddenly get there take the object
away from Letty and keep on moving. Letty will complain, get up, bite Karla
and attempt to pull Karla's hair.

Karla will then scream in pain and yell Letty wants to bite me! Duh!

Back to School-- Karla's lunches and snacks

Karla has a lunchbox w/ 2 separate compartments (from Lillian Vernon). Some of her favorite snacks are yogurt, fruit cups (we like Mott's applesauce and other fruits), juice/milk boxes, cereal, pieces of fruit (dry or fresh). Sometimes, I put a sandwich or a cookie in a Ziplock bag. For lunch we pack frozen leftovers (I always save a few pieces of previous dinners) or a Chef Boyardi reheatable pasta cup. We try to pack in as much nutritional stuff as possible, but every once in a while we use prepared foods.

Toddler rebelliousness

My almost 3 yr has become quite contrary lately. If we say something is x, she says no its y. To her it's a joke. She also wants to boss us around. To us it's puzzling and annoying.

I keep reminding myself of the nursery rhyme "Mary, Mary, quite contrary..."

She's also almost fully weaned, except for an occasional nursing.

Ada Letty's Birthstory

Ada Leticia was born at noon on Wednesday, Sept 28, 2005. She measured 18 ? inches and weighted 5 lbs. 14 oz. She nurses like a champ and is tandem nursing with her big sis. Here is Ada Leticia's story.

Ada Leticia’s Birth Story

Last Tuesday, September 27, Mommy began having irregular labor pains. Shortly after midnight Papi (Daddy) and Abu (Grandma) took Mommy to the hospital, to monitor the contractions. They would be every three minutes and then go away for an hour or so. In the early morning the ob/gyn examined Mommy, determined she was in early labor and gave her something to help speed things along. Doctor was very concerned about a potential umbilical cord prolapse.

Two hours later, the ob/gyn breaks the bag of water and immediately notices the umbilical cord is pinched, with fetal vitals going down to zero!!! The ob/gyn rushed Mommy to the OR, quickly performed an emergency c-section (with general anesthesia), and saved my life by getting me out in just 22 seconds. Mommy was out for a long time due to pain meds. When Mommy woke up later that evening, we finally met face to face and I was able to nurse for the very first time. We roomed together throughout the hospital stay, except for short times spent at the Nursery for medical tests. I also met big sis at the hospital.

After returning home, Mommy's wound somehow got infected. Doc gave Mommy some antibiotic so she'll get well soon. Mommy hopes to get well soon so she can carry big sis. Big sis says she loves me and keeps on kissing me, yet she can get very jealous.

The Pediatrician says I'm gaining weight fast. When I was 9 days old, I weighted 6 lbs, 7 oz thanks to Mommy's milk.
